ArtGall : User-driven Photo Galleries

General information
The name ArtGall stands for Article Galleries. The program is unique in that
it allows all registered users to create one photo gallery per article on a
web site. It was written to fully integrate with the portal system PHPnuke,
but it can also be used in stand-alone mode.
ArtGall is mostly user driven. One or more editors moderate the content. They
can approve galleries, manage advertising, ban users who abuse the system and
perform many other administrative tasks.

Technical features
All gallery information as well as all dynamic configuration options are kept
in a Mysql database. Static configuration options (which normally only change
during installation) are kept in a separate configuration file. The pictures
themselves are kept in the file system.
ArtGall automatically scales down images to a predefined maximum size. The
site name, owner name and an advertiser logo are automatically imprinted on
each picture. A small border is also put around each picture. Colors and fonts
can be adapted to create a special style for your site.
Users cannot access the originally uploaded pictures directly. This ensures
that only pictures with your style can be downloaded, plus it saves bandwidth.
Users can vote for a picture only once. Gallery owners cannot vote for their
own pictures. Counters are kept for the number of visitors that viewed each
picture. Visits by administrators and gallery owners do not increment this counter.
ArtGall uses a secret formula to calculate an Activity indicator per picture
and gallery. The number depends on the number of comments and the number of
ratings, but is independent from the actual rating itself.
